• Are You Prepared For An Emergency?

How prepared are you to face an emergency situation?

An emergency is an unplanned event that interrupts normal operations. It requires immediate response and decision making. Having an emergency preparedness plan in place ensures that the best response will happen in the event of an emergency.

The preparation of an emergency plan is a critically important task for any company.  A basic plan can be drawn up fairly quickly.

An emergency preparedness plan should meet a number of needs. A good plan should be clear and thorough enough to cover the widest range of situations. The plan should:

    • Establish a chain of command for decision making
    • Establish procedures for notifying staff of the emergency
    • Evaluate the effects of potential risks
    • Survey and prioritize assets
    • Indicate who should determine emergency response needs and how
    • Provide ways to prevent certain kinds of damages
    • Define procedures for staff response and recovery
    • Provide information about resources
    • Establish emergency training activities and drills
    • Define how to return to normal operations

In addition to having an emergency preparedness plan in place a company should also have enough supplies on hand to last 72 hours.  This includes food, water, first aid supplies and essential emergency supplies such as flashlights, a radio, batteries and a whistle.  Seton offers a wide variety of emergency and first aid kits to meet your organizational or personal needs.  All kits contain the essential supplies needed in an emergency.
