Ever wonder if making a formal complaint  makes a difference?

A lot of companies have employee suggestion boxes and formal complaint programs but you never hear of the consequences.  Well we know OSHA takes employee complaints submitted to them serious.  In this case,  an employee at Formosa Plastics Corporation  made a formal complaint back in October 2009.  This launched a full investigation by OSHA which resulted in proposed penalties totaling  $133,500. The penalties cover a range of 27 different violations from combustible dust hazards, failure to provide the correct PPE, to Lockout Tagout procedures.   OSHA released the full report last week March 31,2010.
